Porsche Lovers Box

Used a Wheel Cap (Middle Cover of Car Wheel) in the top of the box, this one obviously for a Porsche Lover.   The Wheel Cap is made of a  pewter looking metal, exactly 3 inches in diameter.   The wood is Jatoba.   Spines, top decoration, and top left are of redheart, yellowheart, and ebony.   These are the colors of the German Flag.    The top is tapered to accent the inset.   Finish is Osmo.

This type of inset is on a lot of cars besides Porsches.   BMW, Corvette, Cadillac, Mustang etc etc.  Sometimes part of the hub cap.

Made two of these, one was given to the Porsche Dealer's Service Manager, a friend.    He has been very good to me and my Cayman S.  Hope this will inspire more good service and great loaner cars.

This was project was done Sept. 2022.

Thanks for the comments.

Great box and I like  the color of the wood, but I’d rather have the Porsche.  😀

Nice, I remember when you first showed this🙂

Back in the 80's when I was doing paint and body on cars to supplement my own vehicle projects, a buddy from school wanted some stuff done.
He had a 911, roofers dropped a brick on its roof next to the door. He was adamant about no Bondo. I was able to "reverse the wave" in the metal (wasn't stretched at all) so I didn't need to touch the head liner or work from the inside.

The paint was white lacquer so super easy to touch up. The paint was faded and to match my repair I went ahead and rubbed out the entire car. Learned a lot about those cars just by feeling all the contours and exploring every inch.
Thanks for the comments....I have both the box and the car.   Fun car to drive.    Curves are one of the fun things.     A few things different on a Porsche.    Like the ignition switch or blob thing is always on the left of the steering wheel on the dash.     Anyone know why?

I remember this one. It’s a great looking box
Years ago at the Le Mans 24 hour race the cars were lined up on one side of the track facing out.   The engines were not running.   The drivers were lined up on the opposite side of the track.   When the gun sounded and the flag waved the drivers ran across the track jumped into their cars, started them and away they went.    Dr. Porsche figured out that if the driver could enter the car with the key in his left hand he could shift into gear with the right hand as he started the car with his left hand, thereby getting a bit of an edge right at the beginning of the race.    Maybe a 3 to 5 second head start.
So now the fob or key is always on the left as "Tradition".     More than you wanted to know.

Lots of tricks for a few seconds edge in racing. I remember back in the 70's? when NASCAR builders had a full tank capacity limit. They made the fuel line 1/2" and snaked it all around to gain a few extra gallons.
Nice to know when I’m trying to get somewhere fast. It makes a lot is sense when you think about it. Faster start.

I’d have Peter Dinklage hiding in there revving up the engine.

I’ll bet the other race car makes soon followed. The gas line should never be over 50 kilometers long.

I remember this Ron, it is a beautiful box, well done.

Like Ron said, keys in the left hand, shifter in the right hand…makes you fast!

Great box.  I almost bought a used 73 911, came to my senses and bought a 240Z, second car I owned. The Porsches I have driven have been lots of fun.

Great box with many thoughtful touches and pleasing proportions. I really like the shape of the lid.
