Eagle’s Wave fountain pen

I made this pen from a blank created by an early master—an original artisan. If you’re interested, look on the IAP (penturners.org) for pens and blanks created by Eagle.

Eagle's blank in this pen is called a Wave.
He made this one using Maple, Walnut, Walnut, Maple—it was a combination of 4 waves.
I’ll never know why he sent me the blank; he just did.
What a joy and blessing to have completed this pen. His blank is a masterful work.
There are 154 pieces of wood in the blank glued up in 8 different gluing sessions. There are 148 strips of veneer with a glued up "base blank" to try to get diamonds of different colors.
It requires more than 2 ounces of CA to make the blank.
The kit is a Rhodium/22K Gold Jr. Statesman Fountain Pen.
The finish is CA—about 12 layers of thin CA.

This pen was completed in 2007.
William “Eagle” Prisavage passed July 4, 2008.

Such a unique look. Very cool.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Very unique looking pen, striking really.

Amazing work of the art, how special to have and to remember.  Thanks for the story!!

What I find great about these pens is the unlimited patters/colors that can be created. Making a small block doesn't require a huge amount of material so one can experiment for not much $$.

Cool pen Gary!
That is an amazing pen blank. You put it to very good use!
Thanks everyone.
There was a time when I was making lots of pens as gifts, for our Service men and women, and selling some.
It was actually pretty good money.

nice pen..... manship !

That is one neat blank GG.

Sort of reminds me of black palm,

which is what I use for all my display pens... that way clients could concentrate on the choice of pens and not the blanks... the choice of blanks came later.... (damn, that close up shot revealed some left over sanding marks undetected by normal eye... gotta downgrade the camera or upgrade my sanding).

Only 12 coats of CA???  This black palm cigar has been in my top pocket mostly for the last 14 years,

The gold plating has worn off and I've only buffed it up once in all those years...  I use 20 coats... those extra 8 coats got me an extended 5.6 years of shine (according to my slide rule calculations).
Don't care what those naysayers say... plenty of coats of CA, properly applied, gets plenty of years of longevity.

I agree that pens can be good money... as long as you keep away from ("distorted") slimlines and pick your clients/marketplace carefully.  There are a few people that are prepared to part with their shekels for quality products... a finely crafted pen/rollerball (not ballpoint... there is a big difference) will always attract discerning customers.

Loved your celtic knot... and fully appreciate the effort put into it... however, most customers could not appreciate the effort and cost (time) involved.  I bought a Beall Pen wizard years ago thinking to revolutionaise the pen industry and woo sophisticated customers...

sold 3 pens designed on it, and gave away the rest (4)... it is now object of my box making blogs.

Very cool design in that wave pen, along with the other you posted. Well done.

Very unique pen! Nice work on it an all the others. I have made a few pens but as Ducky says, you have to make good high end pens to attract the right customers!!

LBD,
Black palm is 😎 stuff—I’ve done two of them so far.
If you’re talking about the dark cigar—the first one after the wave—it’s actually dark wood and blue acrylic pinstripes.
And the Beall Pen Wizard looks pretty good too.
Never used one.
