I met a Navy veteran a couple months ago that was a Submariner.  First time I have met a submariner.  Made him a military plaque to hang up.  Hope he likes it.

Great looking plaque.    Always have respected the U.S. Navy Submariners.    WWII in the Pacific U.S. Submariners contributed greatly.     Still do often the Silent Service for what they have done and do.  Great of you to make and deliver the plaque.

I'm betting he will, as it looks really nice!

That looks great! Did you find plans for this?
Absolutely amazing!  All those stars are just perfect.  Letters in fancy font, perfect rope, lines for straight and circles  are perfect.  I just can't imagine how you do those.  Super scroll master for sure.  I'm a Navy vet, my sons are Army and Marine Corp vets, I have done marquetry but those are just mesmerizing.  Makes me want to try to learn, truly inspirational work.  My Marine helped evacuate the embassy in Afganistan during the bug-out (DOS air wing).  Thanks for showing your work, amazingly talented master craftmenship.
Semper Fi.  And thanks for your and you sons service.  (I used to be an engineer on F-18 program)

Timo1,  have a book of patterens  of the military emblems.  The submariner emblem came from a   pattern of a plaque off of Scrollsawworkshop.

Nice tribute! Excellent work!
PapaDave, that is the book I have except I have the second adition.  I cut the spine on mine so I can scan the pages laying flat. Once scanned I can resize more easily.  Making different emblems and giving them to veterans has been the most appreciated , by the receiver, and most rewarding for me, woodworking I have done in all my years.  I have had veterans cry when I give them one.  I am really getting tired of cutting them but I will keep at it.  Gave my last Marine one to the owner of the barber shop I go to the first of this week,, Now I have to me myself another one.
Nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Beaut plaque!
But no way would you have ever got me in a boat.
I was a “skimmer” as the submarines called us.

What a wonderful gift!
No Navy guys here? On another forum, a Navy guy pointed out that I had the submarine facing the wrong direction! I even thought about that once while making it, but got too anxious to get it done and didn't ask.
I was able to get it off and the rope, so I could fix it pretty easily sand and refinish. Going to look better than the first time around.
Real nice plaque and a great gift !
