Clapper

Wife asked for a "clapper". Never heard of one except maybe a person in a crowd? Used by tailors to hold material down after ironing to hold the crease until it cools. They're all over the map for price, online. I have a stack of hard maple stair spindles that hadn't yet suffered the lathe, so square cross-section, 1-3/4". Got them for $2 apiece at the local Habitat ReStore. This is 1/4 of a spindle. Simple table saw and router work.

Never heard of one, but your research and use of the maple sure makes sense.

Thanks! How I made it this far without ever hearing of it, I don't know. But then, what I know about tailoring could fill a small book with large print. I don't think that my wife had heard of it more than a few days ago, and she's been making quilts for decades.

Neat project, never heard of one either. To me the clapper was the thing from back in the late 70's to turn off lights and a TV.

Yup, first thing I thought of, Eric!

Never heard of a Taylor's clapper.

Heard and had a light clapper.

I have heard of the clap.. stay away from that.

Thanks for posting

Very nicely done.
My wife is a quilter and I have made a couple.
Thanks, Petey! I've never had the clap, either.
Thanks, Birdseye49! I'll take a look at yours.
