The local Women’s Club wanted a Smart TV mounted in an open space.
Mrs. G is the club’s current President and volunteered my services.
We donated this older, rarely used Sony Bravia.
A post on the left and wall on the right defined the space between which the screen needed to go (roughly 74” wide and 72” high).
I designed their solution and drew a diagram which the Board approved.
Southern Yellow Pine attached to the post and wall using forstner-bit recessed screws covered with IPE plugs I turned.
Then, forstner-bit recessed screws through pine tongue and groove boards screwed to the back of the SYP and plugged with hardwood plugs.
Finished with 2 coats Water-based clear poly front and back.
Using the threaded mounts in the back of the TV, I made a jig matching the 4 holes such that the TV is mounted directly to the T&G pine using 6mm bolts.
The entire project was completed in a couple of days over the Labor Day weekend. A club member’s husband helped with labor, and Mrs G and a club member did the finishing.
The power and HDMI cords will run under the screen. I’ll be building a tube mounted to the wall to carry those to the wall and a box to sit on the floor to hold the extra length when it’s not in use and plugged in.
Cost for all materials: about $250.00 retail
Now, they want another wall in the perpendicular space, a rolling box to store the folding tables, and we’re discussing replacement kitchen cabinets.
