A little Segmenting

I just finished this up yesterday. I have always liked the NW Coastal Native American art. I use a picture of a painting by Glenn Rabena to make this. Segmenting scrolling is lots of fun to me. Cut every piece out, paint it them put it all back together. Really satisfying when it all fits and nothing broke and no piece lost.

Nicely done! Great colors too…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

It came out great. Good job on the Marquetry.
Fantastic piece of work.  impressive.

I'm a fan of the NW native art also. You did a real nice job on it
Thanks for the nice comments.
Thewoodguy, segmenting is not as difficult as marquetry.  It is straight forward, cut the piece out, 90°, no bevel, paint it and put it back in.  I have the greatest respect for marquetry, to me, the ultimate artistic wood working.   Segmenting is more simple and mechanical.  I hope to do marquetry when I grow up!  I guess you could say segmenting is the poor mans marquetry.
Great follow through with the NW theme!
I've though about how to get a similar result but got stuck on how to level it all out when done. The answer was so simple, just use a single piece of wood (duh!)

Looks great with the strong contrasting colors and a fine way to avoid the disasters (for me at least) of trying to paint inside the lines 😀
My wife has an outline book of this art form, I'll have to dig in and see what can come forth!
SplinterGroup, I'd love to know the name of the book your wife has.
you do nice work!  envious....

I'll dig them out this evening 👍

Scrappile. It still looks great. I’d like to try it soon.
Thewoodguy, I use a scroll saw.
There are more somewhere which I'll find, but this was on my desk

It has a bunch of regional symbols/designs, maybe 4-5  (50 designs) of "Alaskan & Pacific NW".
I might be able to read the CD (these are copyright free) and send you some. Do you know generally what you are looking for? (assuming similar to this project and stuff you can cut and paint without killing me)
I just ordered a book of ebay for a few dollars.  I is suppose to have more info on what the designs, symbols mean and so history about the tribes.  Thanks for the offer, but it think this book will give info I am interested in.
Great looking piece, Paul!!!!!!!!

Looking good! I may try something like this. I appreciate all Native American art, especially SW.
