Mission Style Table

I built this Mission style table that my wife requested. After some initial sketches, I designed it using Sketchup. All solid walnut except for the shelf. Since the shelf has no room for expansion/contraction in my design, I made my own plywood by sandwiching a piece of 3/4” MDF between 1/8” walnut veneers for stability. The beveled top is 1 1/8” thick and attached with figure 8 fasteners to allow for wood movement. I used TransTint walnut dye for a darker look, followed by multiple coats of Osmo Polyx. It’s always rewarding to see a design on paper come to life.

Thanks all. When you say you love the mission style, you are referring to woodworking, correct?

But why do people make tables... to hold nothing?

Clamped, bricked, sand bagged or air bagged?

I'll back off that!

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Thanks Duck.

My wife would find this amusing…my table is in there somewhere.

The only airbags I have are in my Jeep, I play a lot of golf but I’m not a sandbagger, so I used clamps, lots of clamps.
Yup, that’s how home projects go. Beautifully hand crafted, and immediately covered up…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Typical SWMBO... get the honey do, to provide a view out of the window, for some sightless plants.  Like caged hens... they can drool at the free roaming plants on the outside.

Just thinking of the middle of that vast expanse of lamination... without a Linda L'ace clamp, I would have though of bricking it in the middle... or at least a heavy metal "1 Wood".

Looks great! Good thing you took a picture before it went to work.
