Glue cabinet

I was working on another project last week, and couldn’t find the package of hide glue granules I KNOW I have somewhere in my shop. So it was time to built another cabinet, this time to hold all (er, most of) the glues. There’s still multiple gallons of epoxy that won’t ever fit in this cabinet.

Dovetailed pine, built out of scraps left over from the bookcases. 1x8s on the sides, 14½ wide, by 24¼ tall. Painted with Real Milk Paint “Lily Pad” paint.

Shelves just have support cleats glued to the sides and sit on top of them. I haven’t painted the shelves because they’re busy holding stuff.

This morning, after I thought I might be done, I started building a door. Took a 8 inch-ish wide by 4/4 white oak board, squared it up, and resawed it into two ¼ thick bookmatched boards, and used some scrap walnut to frame it. No fancy joinery. Butt joints and the walnut is just glued to the surface of the oak. Will probably survive just fine as long as I don’t move it out of the desert.

And here it is with the door in and interior shelves and drawer painted in a lighter shade of green.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with it, and the drawer even fit on the first try.

May you have the day you deserve!

Smart and simple 👍🏼

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nice solution Dave, gotta start somewhere!
looks like you have room for a few more bottles too.
The door looks really nice, some interesting figure to liven up your walls.
Nice storage Dave. I gotta say I love that green. If that glue up with the Cathedrals is the door, I'd leave that natural, nice matching panels. :-)
Thanks, folks. Going to finish the door and shelves beginning tomorrow, so it’ll be a couple days until I get a photo with the door actually on the cabinet.

Dave

Really good idea.  I can't find my glues either.

Nice doors!

I hear you on the "couldn't find" aspect of woodworking,  been there - done that more & more every day. Nice box and organizing.
Hi Dave, nice way to organize the glues and related stuff. You'll always know where to find it!!

Nice solution! I find that once there is dedicated storage for something I rarely lose it.
Thanks, guys! Chamfered the walnut on the doors today and then got a coat of oil on them (my typical finish for things in the shop).

I think we’re grocery shopping tomorrow morning, and then I need to connect with our plumber and get him to remove the brand-new Phyn smart water shutoff valve he installed last Thursday because it has now shut our water off twice when there was no leak, just normal usage, and the company keeps gaslighting me, telling me that “the logs show your device never shut off the water.” If someone starts to suggest you buy something from Phyn, punch them in the mouth before they can finish the sentence. They deserve worse.

So anyway, hoping to get the door put on by Friday, but we’ll see how the week develops.

Got the door on this morning before heading to the neighbor’s to get some plants.

I’m still building a drawer for the bottom shelf to hold brushes and small stuff. When I paint that, I’ll also paint the other two shelves.

Well, apparently I’m getting better at making things to fit. The drawer slid in on the first try, and it and the shelves are now painted a paler green (half “Lily Pad” and half “Soft White”). The milk paint dried in about 20 minutes, but the tung oil I put on over it is still tacky. But getting closer to “done.”

Interior shots added.

Nice cabinet! so your shop recovered and keeps improving! nice.

No name noobie here

Thanks, YRTi! Yeah, my sweetie asked if things were going to fall down again, and I showed her the 3½ inch screws all the cleats are screwed into the studs with. I think it’ll be ok.

I like the variations you do with each storage solution. Uniformity is out, sure makes it easy to just visually remember where stuff is. 👍
With the trunk latches, even a quake won't empty your cabinet!
Thanks, Splint! The top two shelves on this one were “a little more than the height of a GlüBot.” And the bottom shelf was “how much space is left on my longest pieces of leftover pine 1x8?”

May you have the day you deserve!

Nice book matching, now about the plants what did you PU?
