Hey Guys!
It’s been a minute since I last posted.
I just finished a fun yardstick puzzle. Puzzle collectors love it when there is a series, even if it’s only one copy per design.
In my never ending quest to challenge myself, I proposed a 10 design series, where each mechanical design is different from the other. Each one progressively getting more difficult.
What makes me happiest is to not have an intended outcome, but to flow with what is already there. In this case, the way the box sides were put together I was able to use the middle row ( on two sides) as functional manipulators for the unlocking of this design.
One of the fun challenges here was to make the push buttons for the top lid. Each push completely in AND rotate without feeling anything, well, almost. One dial has its important role, while the other three are just red herrings. I can’t say that I had done the push buttons in quite this way before, so I always enjoy reinventing my own wheel, lol.
I have been building up a good ‘junk drawer’ for future steampunk ideas, and the brass finial seemed to fit perfectly with the vintage vibe.
The other two yardstick puzzles in the series was called Pinch an Inch and Yardstickt. I do have fun coming up with the puzzle names, just like naming a child I reckon, lol.
