Pinch Rods

A little late to the party, but I finally got around to making some pinch rods.

I could have made the block a bit thinner and more elegant, but these will work fine.
I went with a more traditional design and all wood hardware as I'm allergic to metalwork.

Start off with some premium lumber (This is part of a pallet the stone for my kitchen floor turned up on).

And neaten it up a bit

Cut down to size

And final dimension for 3 x pinch rods.

Same for the blocks

Dovetail into a open cube

Tap for the screw

And finally make the screw

And that's it - quick and dirty pinch rods.
Smallest one will go down to 1 foot, and the largest up to 4 foot.
Although it's simple enough to just make new rods, I could have just made 1 block, but then I'd probably lose the rods for when I need them.

Looks good Mike! Pinch rods are nice to use. I use mine all the time for making boxes.
Nicely done! I need to make a set of little ones. My mid-sized ones are even too big for a lot of the stuff I do.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks Rick, they are easier to use than the 2 sticks taped together that I've gotten by with before now.
I seem to recall you started the latest pinch rod trend, so thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers Ryan, Vernier Callipers work great for the really small stuff, I'll probably need something in the 5-12" range though, I'll see how I like using these first.
Nice job Mike. As soon as you think you have all the sizes you need, something comes along. You have a plan for going ahead quickly though.
Nice project for hand tool woodworking, and they'll come in handy on the next project.

Great design BUKy... love the dovetail addition.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Nice, Mike!

May you have the day you deserve!
