A little late to the party, but I finally got around to making some pinch rods.
I could have made the block a bit thinner and more elegant, but these will work fine. I went with a more traditional design and all wood hardware as I'm allergic to metalwork.
Start off with some premium lumber (This is part of a pallet the stone for my kitchen floor turned up on).
And neaten it up a bit Cut down to size And final dimension for 3 x pinch rods.
Same for the blocks
Dovetail into a open cube Tap for the screw And finally make the screw
And that's it - quick and dirty pinch rods. Smallest one will go down to 1 foot, and the largest up to 4 foot. Although it's simple enough to just make new rods, I could have just made 1 block, but then I'd probably lose the rods for when I need them.
Thanks Rick, they are easier to use than the 2 sticks taped together that I've gotten by with before now. I seem to recall you started the latest pinch rod trend, so thanks for the inspiration.
Cheers Ryan, Vernier Callipers work great for the really small stuff, I'll probably need something in the 5-12" range though, I'll see how I like using these first.
