Contemporary Table

Golf season is winding down, so I’m getting back into the shop more. My wife requested a contemporary style table to match the display pedestals I made a couple of years ago. It’s a simple, clean design with a walnut base and a highly figured curly maple top. I finished with Osmo PolyX, my go to finish for projects with maple since it doesn’t add too much warmth.

The last 2 images are the Dowelmax used for joinery. I came up with the idea to use a small block of wood for an end stop to provide great accuracy.

The table looks great. The maple is a perfect choice.

Cool Foto... But where'd you get that twisted comtemporary... though I believe most people would call it a bowl.

You should have put a blank in your gun... you shot yourself in the foot as that small block of would is subject to change and should only be used during golf season.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Very clean. Nicely done.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks guys and Ducks. The wood is the hero here, thus the simple design. Don’t worry Duck, there’s room for expansion and the top and shelf are both attached with figure 8 fasteners. The vase was made by my wife, who has become an amazing potter in her retirement. Here’s the original display tables I made a few years ago with more of her work.
WOW!  Love the design and your selection of walnut and maple works together  perfectly.

And another WOW for your wife's pottery!
You two make a great team!

The tables speak for themselves, clean design with that classy maple. Work perfectly as display stands for the pottery, perfectly complementary!

I love the curly maple.
Thanks for sharing your project.
Beautiful work - both of you.

Huh? Whadaya mean it ain't "measure once cut twice"?
