That’s recognizable, Tony. I see some hesitation marks and such which I would clean up, but for a first effort, that’s good. Keep that knife sharp while you’re working. I generally have a strop right there on the bench while I’m carving so I can touch up the blade as soon as I notice any dullness.

May you have the day you deserve!

I agree w/Dave, great first go!

What wood is that? (bass wood?)

I do not see blood, that's a good start.   It is recognizable.
Give it an A.

Ron

Looks good Tony!

Way to go!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Looks fine for a first article. It just needs a little refinement. Getting cut is a way of life with carving tools. I have a glove but don't wear it. It's a bulky Kevlar(R) thing that is hard to bend, so it tires out my hand. I put all my big carving tools in a chest (the 14-drawer project). I noticed the other day that there is a big drip of blood about 5" long down one side of it. You know your carving tools are sharp when you notice blood, but don't feel the cut.

There is such an appeal to carving.  Did you go off of a plan, or did you design it?

The talk of blood reminds me when I was a kid, I convinced my dad to buy me a carving set (??or just one) at HF.  I wanted to try my hand at the craft.  The only wood around was a piece of 2x4.  I proceeded to push the tool along the 2x4 and stick the tool into my hand.  Embarrassed, I went it the house to have mom help me stop the bleeding!!  Vague memory, but did learn to not have tools moving toward flesh!!
right barb sharp blades always push away from flesh 🤔 DAMHIKT !!!!!

Tony- I'll have to take a look.  Assuming on YouTube (as that seems to be the go-to for how-to!)?

It's great when a piece of wood comes alive in your hands

amazon has lightweight chef gloves. They can resist cuts, but not pokes. I will wear 1 on the hand holding the workpiece.

You can have my girl but don't touch my hat! Lyle Lovett

Looks good Tony, it's Jimmy Durante with a peaked cap on, right?

Seriously buddy it looks great. Those chainmail gloves don't cost much, and they do ward off a lot of the "cuts" like Hairy said, not so much on stabs.
i have a pair of gloves not a fan of them
