That's excellent for a first attempt. Do all you can to encourage her to continue making!
She made a real nice pen. It is good to get kids to learn wood turning. Once the make something, it gets them thinking about other round things they could make.
When I was teaching at the high school, the girls were the best turners. they seemed to have more finesse and attention to details. One girl mad a set of 5 Russian nesting dolls so she had to pay attention to dimensions!!
