That's excellent for a first attempt. Do all you can to encourage her to continue making!
She made a real nice pen. It is good to get kids to learn wood turning. Once the make something, it gets them thinking about other round things they could make.
When I was teaching at the high school, the girls were the best turners. they seemed to have more finesse and attention to details. One girl mad a set of 5 Russian nesting dolls so she had to pay attention to dimensions!!

Good on her Tony, also on whoever showed her the way. We need more people showing our younger generations how to do ALL crafts, and guilds, lest we come to a time, when no one can remember how. It makes my heart feel good when I see work done like this by the young.
