So, this was just supposed to be something to practice with. However, despite not being a deep bowl, I liked it enough to post it. Bottom line, fun for my first bowl, but I think I need some lessons.

looks real nice goats ! but i can see the fear and caution on making it.😨 thick walls and shallow ! but hey i cant say anything because that was my first bowl. keep going and each one will get better and easier. it's when they fly off the lathe i get nervous 🤣 i like your coin on the bottom.

There's always a turning pint when one goes "around the bend".

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

For a first or many times later I think.it is well done, attractive, and useful.   A nice bowl.

Though the last bowl I made was in JHS woodshop, I can clearly remember Pottz's comment shallow and thick. Never tried to kick it up a notch and go for "broke".
You've explored some nice techniques for patterns and style. You'll be going far I expect! 👍
For my first run, “fear and caution” is an appropriate assessment. However shallow it may be, the girth makes up for it. Sturdy as hell.
Looks great! Use a face shield when you turn!!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

That's what I keep saying, but why do SWMBOs challenge it?

Looks great to me!
Thanks for the great supporting comments. Except Pottz, who kicked me in the dovetailed jointed jewelry box and made fun of my bowl size.  Tee heee.
Yeah, Pottz may have big bowls, but inside they are just hollow shells.
Keep on turning!
hey this is a big boy wood forum, i dont sugar coat it ! 😁

Not to worry, Pottz often demonstrates bowl envy.

For a first attempt, you sure went fancy.  My first several bowls were just random chunks of tree trimmings I found on someone's trash pile.

actually i havn't turned a bowl in over a year !

I had a great plan, Pottz. I went to LJ hoping grab some early bowl postings of yours. I was going to post them as my second bowl and see if you would recognize them and call me on it. Good grief, Pottz! My plan fell through because you managed to get yourself banned and your site is unavailable.

Thanks for ruining a well laid out plan.
Lucky you didn't find it Goaty... if you posted it, his SWMBO would have recognised it and clipped him around the ears for another bloody bowl.
