Old and new

The plain table ( I call Monday morning) is older. The spalted one(Friday Night) just emerged from the shop. I guess I would call the spalted beech as a variation on a theme. Mostly mortise and tenon construction.  Taper ed legs, chamfered tops. Clear gloss polyurethane finish.  The spalted birch was harder to work with because parts of the wood were quite soft. That made getting clean smooth surfaces harder. Also, beech soaked up the poly. Should have used a sanding sealer: or other prep?
that spalted wood is beautiful. nice upgrade from the old. i love the look of a floating top.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Beautiful top.   Table is well done

Nice pair of tables Peakplane, the finishes on both look great. I especially like the Monday
Morning table, the one with 3 section top, very unique.
You mentioned using clear gloss polyurethane finish, was it water based?  I've used water based, really like it - easy and fast.
Love the floating tops - a feature I've yet to attempt. Both of these look great!
Sweet tables. I love spalted beech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for new messages. Spalted birch is beautiful; one downside with this batch was some soft wood inside after cutting to size.
Not sure how I missed this one. The tables are beautiful!
Beautiful, both of them!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
