Ambient light box

Kind of based on Japanese lanterns, but more for ambiance than general lighting. It is made from African Mahogany and piece of unlabeled mahogany. The Japanese characters represent earth, water, air and fire. I used colored glass for the elements. The grids are made with basswood and half lap joints. Inside there is a clear plexiglass shelf with a small LED light. I added the Tansu hardware to bolster the frame joints. They also add a bit more Japanese design. It is finished with gloss polyurethane.

Nicely done! How did you cut the kanji out?

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Sweet light box!!!!!!!!

I used my Dremel tool in the Lee Valley router base. The cutting tool was a tiny carving point that allowed me to make the narrow corners.
Thanks for kind words.
really love that design, very stately!

The "theme" of the four elements is a great idea, the colors really add to the effect. Detailed delight!
Very nice work Peakplane. I really appreciate the obvious work and skill in the making of it. Kudos!
That's very cool! I'm thinking of making a grid for the indirect lighting I'm using in my carving area.

Also, nice and classy!
