I made these octagonal shaped chisel handles on my tablesaw and drill press. They are made of torrefied maple. I have some Narex Chisels that I like but not the handles and intended to replace them with these. Most of the time, I use my Stanley Sweethearts and seldom use the Narex, so I've put off changing the handles out. Someday, they'll get their chance and be in their glory! LOL.
I think that’s a great shape for chisels you’re going to be a little hard on…and the torrefied maple will be strong enough to take a beating. Makes me want to swap mine over!
Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
Dark_Lightning Never heard the term "torrefied" before, so I had to look it up. Most interesting. Nice looking handles!
Thanks Dark_Lightning! Torrefaction yields results with Maple that sort of makes it look like walnut. It's beautiful. It has a toasty smell and goes away when you put any finish on it. Lee Valley often sells chunks of it. I don't know when they sell it. It's now and then but their customer service would tell you.
