Hall closet door

Replaced the old garbage 2-hinge hollow core door with a new 2-panel shaker style solid core wood door slab. Mortise and install 3 new hinges and  hardware and match to new custom built jamb and trim.

I really don't like those hollow core doors!

Hinge mortise job looks great! How did you align them so the door and jamb locations are the same?
no hollow core doors in my house, hate em.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thanks.
I built the jamb myself so I mortised one piece for hinges prior to installing it. Thus, it was easy to use as a story stick to mark the door. Same with the handle and strike.
If I were doing a lot of these—like an entire new house or more, I’d build a jig which would run the full door length and have 3 hinge guides in it.

When I’ve done new doors and old jambs, I block the door in position with a temporary shop made door rocker and mark as needed.
I’ve had pre-mortised 3-hinge doors and 2-hinge jambs wherein I’ve had to make dutchmen and re-mortise the jamb or sometimes just add the middle one and I’ll do the work with hand tools.

However, as this door shows, making a template helps produce a real nice fit. Once the template is correct and complete, using it to mortise for the hinges is easy and very fast.
Nice job!

I have a hinge mortising jig someplace.  I took out all the hollow dogs in my last house.

Nicely done.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
