Equestrian Tack Trunk

I’ve finally got Lil Miss’ tack trunk ready for delivery.

I started working on this the first week of December, 2025. I was trying, in all good faith, to have it ready by Christmas.
Like all best laid plans, it didn’t happen. We had too many travel days and delays for hardware, and I couldn’t get the hardware installed in time.

However, this week, it goes to the barn.

The trunk is Black Walnut frame and panel with Florida Cypress panels. The main case is mortise and tenon. The panels are shiplap with battens top and bottom for easy access to make repairs. The bottom as well.

Here’s some build pics:

The completed trunk:

One end has locking casters and the other has short legs to keep it level. The four pieces are attached using 1/2” diameter threaded inserts and 5/16” stainless steel bolts. You can see a bolt head in the bottom of the trunk in the last picture.

I still need to make the wraps case which will fit in the trunk top but I’m not going to hold off delivering it now.
looks good and looks very well made. she should be very happy with it.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Awesome! Definitely worth the wait as the function is there plus looks great.

Looks great and should hold every thing except the horse.    The tray is a good addition.

Nice job! I'm guessing cypress is an excellent choice for a trunk like this.
Cypress is nice, and I love black walnut. Nice trunk!

Great job G'G... like that "floating" tray.

Were you "inspired" by Potzzy's blue handles,

for those blue highlights

?

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Thanks.

It’s illegible but has notes like:

Great tack box!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
