This is an older project which I don’t think I’ve ever posted.
It’s one of my early woodworking projects and one wherein I designed and built above my pay grade.
I started with air dried Florida black cherry which I let dry and milled to about 5/8”.
It was pink when I built it.
I think this was built around 2002 to ‘05 or so; we’ve been using it for decades.
It’s got no glue or fasteners of any kind.
The shelf is a two piece component wherein the bottom slides into the back using a beveled angle and sliding dovetail.
Then, each shelf slides into an angled stopped dado using a sliding dovetail.
Joinery-wise, it was the most complicated thing I had tried. It surprised me how well it has worked and held up.
The cherry has darkened to something like a dry blood stain. Quite a change from pink.
The finish is a dewaxed shellac, then wax.
