DIY Pen And Pencil Holder

I saw all these great pens made by other members here.  I’d like to make some but I don’t have a lathe yet. So I decided to make something that holds them.

I used some scraps to make this. The top is mahogany and I’m not sure the what the bottom piece is. I think it’s Brazilian teak. What ever that is.
This was a really fun project and it was really made by a duck. You can tell by the photos.

Drilling the pen holders at an angle.

After I routed out the slot that holds the bird food I drilled the holes to screw on the top part.

Screwing in some stainless steel screws that holds the bottom to the top.

Spraying on several coats of shellac.
Sanding between coats of shellac.

Self portrait. Quack!

Thanks for wadding over to view my pro-duck.
Some of you will see the fun and humor in this post. Some will, for some physiological reason get angry at this project. Maybe they were  damaged by being treated by a quick doctor, like the patients who had the wrong leg removed by a quick. Now they don’t have a leg to stand on. You know who you are.  A good day for me is when I’m not harassed by him.

A nice quick project, but how do you use that stubby pencil with no teeth and webbed feet?
Thanks Dutchy
Splinter. Thanks. As you can see in the authentic photos, I have no trouble holding a pencil in my beak. The stubby one may present a problem.

Nice small project.
Splinter. You’re wondering how a duck can hold a pencil. I’m wondering how he holds a router and other tools.
That is a right handy pen and pencil holder! Nice work on it!!!

Splinter and WoodGuy. You do realize I’m not really a Duck?  I just play one on Craftisian. 🤫

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Ducky. I shouldn’t have played such a convincing role as a Duck. I’m sorry I led someone like you on. ☹️

I shouldn’t be more careful. Before you know it young kids will be dressing up as ducks and attempt to operate heavy machinery. 😳

I do.
Why the blue tape over the yellow drill press collar? James was asking!

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

you saw that huh, me too ! what a phoney bastard !!! and he wears those stupid gloves to hide his hands. and what a coincidence he has art abilities like james does ? you dont know how hard i bit my lip to stop from ripping him up ! i dont get why someone with james talent lowers himself to such a pathetic level ?
