How To Make A Simple But Elegant Cutting Board

You all know I love to cook so I built my own custom cutting board.
I’m here with TheWoodGuy in J Mack’s shop. He away delivering a commission he just completed. We are also feeding his cat.

Martin allowed us to share the same url address. I searched for the message Martin sent James but I couldn’t find it. Pottz did
and posted it here.

It’s probably the only nice thing he’s ever done in his life and it was by accident. Ha ha ha!

I’m sorry I didn’t wear my signature gloves for my many fans that expect to see them. But they seem to trigger some of the less stable members.

I’ll experiment here and we’ll see what happens with this project.

The glue up.
Here’s the stainless steel rod I purchased and the 8” long drill bit.
The handle was routed with a 3/8” round over bit and I bent the rod by putting it in a drilled hole and hammering it to a 90 degree angle.
It wasn’t a perfect angle so I called TheWoodGuy over. He so much better than I am working with metal.
Hi it’s TheWoodGuy. I cut a sacrificial piece left over from the handle, placed it over the rod and the handle and sprayed it with water and heated until it turned red. I hit it with a hammer until it was a perfect 90 degrees. I then used a chisel to break off the sacrificial piece.

DrQuackner should have done this
with the first angle.
Hi it’s DrQuackner. I’m back. Yup. TheWoodGuy is right. I should have done it that way in the first place.

I then drilled holes down through the top of the board. I used a forstner bit to expose the holes that were drilled down from the top.     I put clear epoxy in the holes and banged in the 3/8” plugs I made in the 3/8” holes.

I used a plane to cut down the plugs.
I smoothed down the plugs with an orbital sander.
Then I put on several coats of tung oil.

I should have called the board a prototype because of the mismatched bends in the stainless steel rod. And the misaligned wooden plugs. I’ll get it right next time.

Thanks for taking the time out from your busy day to view my project.

Nice comments are always appreciated. Except for those by Pottz and Rich and maybe Steve and Moke. And the others you know who you are. They can say whatever they want because no one can stop them. They can’t help themselves.
They must have Tourettes Syndrome.
Ha ha ha!

If being a master troll is your life’s goal; dude, you’re there.  In spades.

If building a piece of shit cutting board and posting dog shit recipes is what you want to achieve, stop right there; you’ve arrived.

You’ve achieved the unattainable!!

P.S. Please post screen shots of this all over the forum, so everyone will know what an incredibly awesome dude you are.
