pretty cute lever action pen deer antler pen

I've lost count of the lever action pens I've made but every once in a while I get lucky and get the subtle shades to match and flow.  This kit is from Penn State Industries and approaching $30 each.   Anybody familiar with the kits know that they come with a pathetic metal butt stock and I have enough of them in the shop for a head  start on a boat anchor.
I try to make the butt stock from the same antler as the fore stock in the hopes of color/shade match.  It's difficult to get pieces long and straight enough ( with a 1/2" diameter or bigger) for the fore stock as evidence by the one in this pen.
Notice the front end of the fore stock with the darker splotch.   That is where the 10mm bit broke thru when I drilled it so I filled it with ca and band saw dust.  That's the neat thing about making this kit, some call it a mechanical faux pas but I have moved on and call it artistic
opportunity.
Almost forgot, the pen is 8" overall  and very popular with outdoorsmen and hunters.

Thanks for looking

Nice pen! Good save with the dust. I take it these are collectible? Not sure I'd try to write with one.

Nice pen.    Good upgrade on the stock!

You've mastered these Dick, nice work and even at $30/per for the base, you still have a lot of added value!
Nice work, Dick!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks guys - it's frustrating sometimes but still a lot of fun
D_L   -   it wasn't so much a save because I knew it was going to blow out when I put it in the lathe.  It's funny how a piece will chuck up crooked as all get out and still be able to drill a true hole.   So what if there's missing stock  ?   tape, CA and some chips and dust, good to go
Looks like just the shot to shoot off a few Easter messages to friends
Happy Easter Recycle!
