My DIL requested a band saw box similar to what she already had EXCEPT she wanted a deeper cavity in the top and a cavity in the lid that covered it. This is the first time I've made a bs box with a lid so it turned out to be a bit of planning other than regular BS cutting. I used the top cut-out for the lid but I had to extend its length because it satiated out 2" shorter than needed. I used one of the drawer offcuts to extend the lid then cut it out to form the wanted cavity. I did show her some progress one day and she asked if it would have wood hinges - no, too heavy. ( BIG LIE ) The box itself is walnut, cherry and plywood and the hinges are cherry. The pulls are walnut dowel rod with a 1/16" hole center drilled thru and filled with another dowel for 2 reasons, appearance and it is into the drawer fronts as well as the top front. In the 6th picture you can see the extension in the lid, I got a good joint but just couldn't hide the seam but Imdid get a good pattern match. this picture shows the pattern I had to deal with All in all it was a fun trip
This a great work of art. I like the contrast of woods, and the other details - like the continuous grain on the drawer fronts. Two questions please, 1 - what is your saw's max height? and 2 - what is the width of the blade you used? Beautiful creation.
WOW Dick, that has a 1950's vibe, art deco! Wood layering looks great, glad you didn't find a hidden pocket in that plywood! The drawer "peaks" are a neat feature!
Dick where have you been my friend !!!! well anyway you came back in spades my friend. ive seen many band saw boxes but this one is above and beyond buddy. we need to see much more of you from now on !
