Modeline 1525 Floor Lamp Replica

Here are some final photos of the floor lamp build that I chronicled here.   It's an approximation of the Modeline 1525 lamp that was in production in the 1950's and 1960's.  Cherry frame, linen-over-pvc-sheet shade, LED strip lighting, with dimmable driver hidden in the base.

After the final build photos, I did re-make the LED assembly using 2700K LED strips.   The warmer light is definitely more in keeping with the incandescent bulbs that would have been used back in the day.

I included one of my earlier chairs to the photos.  I also experimented with some AI-generated rooms with both lamp and chair.  It's amazing how AI can extract an object from a photo, infer its 3D shape, manipulate it, change the lighting and shadows.  Some are not quite right, but overall it's pretty impressive.  I included one of the photos in the gallery.

Wow that came out fantastic Ross!  I don’t know what you do for a living but if your eye for design isn’t trained through experience, you have a lot of natural aptitude in the arena!  Really enjoy your projects and love following the detailed blogs.  It’s much appreciated!
damn that sure came out sweet ross. yeah i sure love watching the evolution of your projects.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Wonderful lamp!   Well done.

Ron

Awesome 👍

I like the setting with the chair, fits right in!

Now it seems larger with the setting references, nice!
I really enjoy watching your process and the results are stunning.   Another masterpiece.

Beauty!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

A work of art!

Well done!

I appreciate all of the generous comments, thanks guys.  I'm super pleased with how the lamp turned out.

Ken - design is where I feel I struggle the most, and hence I copy other people's designs.  I'm stronger on the engineering component.   I was a software developer my entire career until I retired last year.  Now I'm a bum. 😄
Very Nice Lamp.  Per the lighting,  just for convo,  I saw an instagram where someone took a tube and wrapped the LEDS in a semi tight spiral around the tube.  Thought it could maybe reduce the number of rigid strips if it were to put out enough light. Besides all that,  it's a sharp looking piece.
Thanks, guys.

Marnell - Yeah, I thought of the spiraled LED strip option after I had already committed to the individual LED strips in aluminum channels.  I think the spiral would be a good option, especially if you could wrap it around a 3" diameter (or around there) metal tube to help dissipate heat.  It sure would reduce the amount of soldering required.   I'd definitely consider that option in the future if I need a similar lighting assembly.
Damn the lack of uploading pictures... so Il have to compromise👍👍👍🦆.

Great job on the project and blog series RL.

The only issue I can see is that unsightly cord... the picture issues preclude me from posting a picture of Uncle Fester with the cordless light bulb.

It looks great in-room, and it pairs well with your chair.

The AI rendering is impressive. I knew which image it was because the starburst click isn’t the one you made.
Very attractive light, Ross.................nice work on it!!

Looks amazing Ross! Great build.

Andy -- Old Chinese proverb say: If you think something can't be done, don't interrupt man who is doing it.

Many thanks, guys.

Duck - Yeah, the cord is an unfortunate necessity until I can work out the Uncle Fester power source.   I couldn't use traditional lamp cord since the LED driver required a ground.  I ended up buying a flat extension cord and cutting off the outlet end.   The black is a little jarring, though, and perhaps a clear version would have been a better choice.    I can always replace it.

Ron - I was thinking that the AI photo would be easy to pick out - it's the one where the room is not junked-up.  😄  The little diamond watermark is another clue, as you identified.   BTW, I used Google Gemini for anyone who's interested in giving it a try.
Uhh now with even better photos. Still looking sharp - and the perfect company to your black chair, great match.

Superb, but you already knew that by now. Thanks also for the blog!
