Large Serving Tray

A good friend, i call her our honorary DIL sent me a request for a tray, a large tray, she wanted it to be 24" x 33" x 3" which is pretty big. So of course i said no problem. I happened to have this one piece of Teak that was about 7" x 8 foot long, just enough to do it. the cool thing was it matched the same of wood she showed me. The bottom is made from some left over cherry ply veneered with some rippled sapele, same as what i used on my chest on stand project. I haven't done a lot of veneering so it has some slight bubbles, but the pattern of the wood pretty much hides the defects, thankfully. The finish is one coat of Arm R Seal with 4 coats of satin rattle can lacquer. Corners are splined with maple. Hopefully she will like it ?

Here are a few build pic's.

That is a large tray done with nice wood, good jointery, splines and all.
Result:  Good looking tray.

Huge!
Love the woods, nice and dare I say, "understated".
Clean lines. Are those handles splayed out a bit, hard to tell.

Hopefully she wont be trucking that around, maybe if full of doilies, but stacked with food or beverage would be heavy!
Very nice, I'm sure your DIL will be very happy
Nice looking tray. It might be one of those two man jobs like the old handsaws.
Nice work; the handles look really nice.
Very good looking tray...you got that done FAST!  I do think it will two people to carry it tho!

Thank guys ! no the handles are straight, just looks like it from the angle i guess. i dont think she's gonna use it for food though. i think she wants it to put on an ottoman, probably to hold candles or knick knacks maybe ? you load that thing up with food and youd need two to carry it 😏

She could get the Ottoman to carry it, or at least a burly Swede.
