I saw all kinds of these crosses and other shapes levitating on Facebook and had to try to make one. This one is made from olive wood for the cross and base. The outer frame cross is made with chestnut wood. It is doweled and glued together at all joints. I put a little turquoise inlay in the worm track in the natural edge base. There are two 16mm rare earth magnets in this design- one in the top of the cross and one in the bottom of the upper cross frame member. The cross would stick to the top but it is retained on the bottom with a piece of Kevlar fishing line. I had originally used Spider Wire for its strength but the friction of spinning broke it. Kevlar is very tear resistant.
It is finished with Danish Oil and clear satin enamel! I'll take it to the craft show on Saturday!!
cheers, Jim
