Custom Sign #6, This One Routed and Painted

A former student’s mom saw pics of some of my signs and asked if I could do a routed sign. “Sure!” I said. She wanted it out of weathered wood and painted in a color, that she remembers, from her Grandma’s house. The sign is to go on the gate of the place that she now owns, that was her Grandparents’ place. It’s become known as The Lea – Bell Place, so here’s what I put together for her.

The main body of the sign is lapped pine, that came from the roof structure of an old house. I paid $15.00 for the roof panel, that was about 6 by 5 foot. I used parts of three boards. :-) The frame is from 2 by 6’s that had been laying on the “Wood” pile, from construction years ago. More nice weathered wood.

I cut stencils, from shelf paper, on the Silhouette SD, and laid them out on the boards. Black lacquer sprayed through the stencils put the lettering on the boards for me to route. I simply routed the black away. Easy-Peazy.

I picked paint samples at Lowes, two copies, mailed one to the customer and had her message me the color she wanted. Lowes mixed me a sample, of exterior paint, for $2.99. The customer and her husband were pleased and it looks like I’ll be doing a custom sign for inside their house.

Wow great pictures. That sign turned out great. Did you make up your own letters? What kind of bit did you use?

Jeff Vandenberg aka "Woodsconsin"

Thanks Jeff Vandenberg. The font is from my Sillhouette SD cutter. I don’t remember the name. I used a two-flute 1/4" straight cut bit.
