Tried something new, with some old wood. Really need to shoot the back side, as I fastened the burlap ribbon into grooves with splines. The 1/4" grooves were cut with my OLD Black and Decker (Plastic) router and a guide block.
Plans were to paint then, “Distress” the wood, before putting on the ribbon, but I went ahead and threw this one together, to see how things would work.

A former student suggested that I apply a dark stain, seconded by my daughter, so I threw some Walnut on it, and like how it turned out. The stain really brought out the “character” in the old wood. I shot the back with some black lacquer to tidy it up.
The old wood came from an aunt’s old place, a garage/shop that had been bulldozed. I was able to harvest some wood, and decided that some would be great in this piece. I think I was right.
