Re-purposed Whiskey Barrel Bottom

A friend (Sherre) of mine’s brother lives in Mexico, and is known as “Rooster” down there. Sherre says that folks ask “Where’s Rooster’s house,” but it’s so similar to the others that they sometimes have trouble finding it.

The friend asked me to do a Rooster sign for his door. We both decided on a round piece, and I remembered that I had bought a half whiskey barrel, from Tractor Supply, that had come apart. I figured the bottom would be great. As barrels are not glued up, I had to glue up the slats. After which I cleaned up the outer surface. Originally I was to do the rooster, but the friend decided that she wanted to paint it.

With that, I stenciled out the lettering, routed and painted it. I handed it off to her, and she’s come up with the design that she’s going to paint. Sure glad I don’t have to!!

I’m hoping that she’ll round off the bottom and “snug” it up to the lettering, top and bottom.

Told her she has to send me a pick when it’s done.
