Reclaimed Oak Beam Bench

A quick project I’ve been thinking about for a while and decided to take some time to knock it out last weekend. 8×8 oak beam from a barn with hairpin legs, used to be one of the main structural supports – 80+ years old. There were some bits of bark still left which I shaved off with a draw knife. Then sanded with a belt sander and followed with a ROS. Seal coat of wipe-on poly. Routed some recesses in the bottom of the beam for the bases on the legs.

Very nice. I like the legs.
I plan on doing a similar thing with some 10 × 12 beams.
Maybe a coffee table.

Wow as they use to say in the 70s “heavy” .a unique Idea and design.

Very cool. Hard to find beams like that.

Nice design. Watch out for those legs gouging your floor. Looks like a lot of weight on 4 small surfaces. It sure is beautiful.

Thanks for the comments. I posted it yesterday as ‘for sale’ and have a buyer interested already.

Brian – -thanks for the advice. I was thinking of adding some type of felt to keep the steel from direct contact with the floor. But it may go on concrete or carpet for all I know. Up to the customer.
