After a few months out of the shop someone finely gave me a good reason to get back out there, I had a repeat customer that needed a shoe polish box made for her husband as a Christmas Gift, he had been using an actual cardboard shoe box to carry his supplies in. I had never made a polish box before so I had to do some research and came across the TRUMS box in which gave me this design idea, since for it’s purpose I Omitted felt lining, I gave it side handles for carrying. The wood used is Chinaberry a wood not sold commercially that I am aware of, I obtained this from cut logs a neighbor had several trees taken down, after I milled them I stickered air dried them for a little over a year.
It measures 13″ × 8 1/2″ × 9 3/4", I finished it with a single coat of tung oil and several coats of my own made up mix of wipe on poly satin finish.
Here is the box picture his wife sent me he’s currently using.
Thanks for viewing.

Thanks for the comments.
Some of my boxes are diverse in that they combine bandsaw box making with traditional miter joint box making which is mine own design and that I like to refer to as my hybrid, the lower part of this box is actually a bandsaw box wrapped with miter joint, joinery.

Blackie, nice work as always. I especially like the wooden hinges. If I get time I’ll post the one I made for use here at home. Since I retired, I have moved away from actual leather shoes…but I do have a couple of pairs left somewhere. Glad you are back in the shop. Sometimes it is healthy to just take a break and come back fresh.

Hi Alan
Thanks, I would rather use wooden hinges over metal just to give it that different look aside I enjoy making them and my customers seem to like them as well.
