Texas Band Saw Box - I cheated!

This box is my contribution for an auction for the Arc of San Angelo, an organization that promotes and protects the human rights of people with disabilities. (My sister is the Executive Director) The box is approximately 4 1/2" X 4 1/2" X 1 3/4" thick and is made of mahogany and maple. The captive hinge pin is near Amarillo and the magnetic catch is near Brownsville.

After I glued up the blank and cut out the shape, I used my band saw to slice off the top and bottom as usual, but the internal cavity was cut out on the scroll saw. Therefore, I may have cheated a bit in the process. However, the super fine cut of the scroll saw prevented any sanding on the inside wall, the cut was more precise, and there is no entry point as there would have been had I used the band saw. Once assembled, it needed only a coat of paste wax for a nice finish.

I’m not sure when the auction is to take place, but I hope that they can sell it for a good price. If you are interested in the work the Arc does, see their website here: https://www.thearcofsanangelo.org/

Looks great, and I don’t think you cheated! Pretty much the same process, just sans entry point. I’m all for less sanding! Great job, and great cause!

Excellent idea . I used the same method on a bowl I,m working on now .
