These pieces of fire wood areactually band saw boxes. I harvested the cottonwood from downed trees on the family farm. These trees were planted by either the WPA or the CCC organizations during the great depression and were intended to shelter the fields from high winds that can move huge amounts of real estate in the Texas Panhandle. Many of the old trees have died and fallen and the wood is well seasoned.
The lids swivel on hidden hinges and do not come off the box. Two small rare earth magnets hold each box tightly closed. I’ll use these for presentation boxes for several Mother’s Day gifts for my sisters and my mother. If you look closely at the one that looks like a puzzle piece, you will notice the puzzle piece earrings inside. My sister is a court advocate for mentally and physically challenged people and she is very active in helping families with autistic children. Puzzle pieces make up most of the logo for the Autism Society.
If they don’t like the boxes, they can be used to hike a key in the fire wood pile!
