I would hog that out with a dado blade on the table saw then finish it with the mortiser and chisel. If you don’t have a dado, you can do it in a couple of passes with a regular blade. Just set up start and stop blocks and slowly drop the leg onto the blade. You’ll still have the blade curve remaining inside the mortise but it will save a lot if time. I’ve done that on the router table too (sideways, not drop down) but it’s a lot scarier than the table saw.
