Deft Clear Lacquer

I'm not sure what happened, but Deft changed it's name, look and product. I bought a six pack of what I thought was the Deft lacquer I used. The can looks different, but the ingredients in the can looked the same.

The problem is in the nozzle and PSI in the can. The old one produced a fine spray under medium pressure. This new can had more pressure than normal and the spray was course and left orange peel.

I'm sending these back and now I need to find another product that works as good as the old one did.

I just bought a 6 pack of Deft a month ago and it was the old label. I guess I’m glad I did now!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks very much Larry, I'll definitely give it a try.
The cans with the tall blue nozzle is what has always worked best for me.

My Wife used to use Deft on her baskets, she swapped to Minwax clear lacquer a while back, she said they changed something, and didn't like the new look. Now I see what she was talking about. Sux when companies do that, usually is to make them more $$$$$ and they don't GARA if you are satisfied or not, as long as they make $$$$$.

I've always just used Shellac for this step, so I have never been much of a user.
I've been trying to come up with an adapter so I can put the blue MW nozzles on regular cans. They'll almost produce a fog.
I tried the Minwax satin and it has the blue nozzle and it is at least as good as the Deft brand and who knows, possibly better. I haven't had it long enough for a complete comparison, but I'm thinking this is my new go to lacquer. Thanks Larry, you da man.👍🏻

Like Pottz when I use spray lacquer I use Minwax. It works fine. However I'm a Shellac fan. 🙂
Just stay away from the Valspar spray lacquer.  Last time I used it, it took forever to cure and felt sort of soft once it did.
I've had luck with the Rustoleum spray lacquer but I have really only used it on plane handle restorations.  It seems to hold up to use pretty well.

the minwax dries fast so i can put on 4 or 5 coats in just a couple hours.

I ordered a six-pack of each, one gloss and one semi-gloss. The gloss is Prolux, the semi-glass is the original Deft.  Because I could not find Deft locally, I purchased a can of Watco Crystal Clear gloss and  one of semi-gloss.  I like it but it smells even worse than Deft.  Another thing about the Prolux, the gloss has a marble or bearing in it.  The gloss Deft did not.  Says on the can " same Deft formula new name" so why the marble?
ive used deft many years ago but not lately. sounds like it's been totally changed. and not for the better.

I found Deft in Arizona, same can graphics.  Seemed fine.  It disappeared for awhile there so then I tried Watco, was not as good.

May try Minwax a company that I use its oil based poly.

I’ve always used Deft in the rattle can and Watco in the sprayer. I’ve tried it the other way and it was not good. Haven’t tried MinWax though.

I have small jobs pretty often that I don't want to use either sprayer I have...too lazy to clean for little stuff.  So yesterday I went to the local Ace and had that Pro Lux in my hand then decided better of it and grabbed the Min Wax instead.  After reading this I am really glad.  Thanks for the heads up Awsum!!!
