  1. First project

There is something to be said about woodworking. using a few tools and your hands, anyone can create something that is utterly breath taking. Since I was young, and got my first set of whittling tools, I have wanted to create something beautiful. I have went so far as to learn multiple musical instruments, but that has something missing for me. I have wanted to make something beautiful. something that I can be proud of and say “I built that” after years of learning different trades I came across wood working projects, and nostalgia from wood carving hit me hard, and I knew instantly what I wanted to make. So while I am just starting out in actual wood working, I am going to stay with it until I finally make that one thing that will inspire someone else. I’ll get off my pedestal now. I have dust to make.

Chris

Well, I also dreamed of making something I would be proud of.
I have not done that yet…

Good luck in whatever you decide to build.

You should be proud of everything you make, whether it be a masterpiece, or failure. With every mistake comes knowledge. With every small victory, comes the motivation to keep at it. Either way, your learning something and improving your skills. You’re masterpiece awaits! Can’t wait to see your creations!

Well said David, everything you make is made by you and no one else. Every project is your own work of love, and every piece you finish you should cherish only because you made it!

CHRIS, Charlottetown PEI Canada. Anytime you can repurpose, reuse, or recycle, everyone wins!

I have a problem then.
I tend to focus on the flaws more than anything else. Mistakes that could have been avoided with a little more planing…
I felt some excitement on some projects; nothing but frustration on the rest.
Yes I learned a ton and that’s a consolation. Learning keep me going.

One day I am going to post that one project that I will be proud of.
For now I keep learning from all of you.

Abbas, Castro Valley, CA

It is a great goal to make something you are proud of, and I guess I started that way too, but after woodworking for quite a few years I have become more enthused with the work process than the actual results, Not to say I don’t want good results. I suspect that many other woodworkers feel the same about it. When you enjoy both the results and the work you have hit the jackpot.

Mike, an American living in Norway

Don’t know if Pride is a woodworking P for me. Patience, Practice, Precision, Planing, are what I continue to attempt to acquire. I like Mike’s comments as it is another important P. LOL! Being in the process and having achieved Patience is a woodworking P for me.
