Urban Ore #2: Wooden tool box

This is part 2 in a 16 part series: Urban Ore

Someone asked me if this toolbox was a jewelry box and I don’t think so.

For $21 I found this box which, were it a jewelry box, would likely have a mirror on the inside of the lid. No, I do think this was intended to hold tools. That’s how I have seen them used in my friend’s machine shop.

So I will throw my marking/measuring instruments in here. Well, the ones that will fit anyways. That will clean up my other toolbox which has become overcrowded.

Here it is unaltered as I walked out with it.

The flocking is CLEAN thought it is very thirsty for some wax/polish. You’ll see it takes a great shine and my tools feel at home in it. But this post is about the acquisition, not the restoration/use.

It caught my eye in the box section as I was leaving. It’s easy to spot quality craftsmanship. I knew in less than 5 seconds that it was worth the $21 I paid (before tax).
not a tool box dev, they dont flock tool boxes. but it will make a good tool chest !

No, even the Gerstner International cheapo chests use felt. And that box was worth that money, if even just for the wood. That's why I cruise the local ReStore, and other thrift stores. Some things people consider junk...
