Better Late Than Never Clamp Rack

I had a few hours to play today while waiting on a couple deliveries to the house. I built an actual rack for my clamps instead of the 2×6 nailed to an existing shelf. I wanted to use up some plywood scraps and build a couple tiers for various clamps. Took about an hour. Too bad I missed the comp but I got some great ideas from it.

Looks great Chris. One tip that you might like: It can take quite a bit of time to screw those metal ‘C’ clamps tight to your clamp shelf. I had the same problem so I solved it by adding a lip to the front edge of the shelf. That allowed me to just put the top of the ‘C’ clamp over the molding and it will stay put without tightening the screw. Nice time saver when you are in the middle of a project. Here is a photo of mine.

Mike, I do have a bit of an overhang lip on each shelf. The C clamps aren’t tightened. Can you take a pic from the side view? I’d love to add a strip but I’m not sure from this pic where to add it. They aren’t flopping around but if I can steady them up a bit that would be great!

I need to do something with my clamps. I’m a bit tight for space (who isn’t?), so I may use a design where the rack sticks out from the wall.. something similar to http://www.rockler.com/rockler-hd-clamp-rack, but maybe make it out of wood since $40 a rack is a bit pricey.

You should check out the designs for the recent contest on this site, maybe theirs a design here for you to use.
