This bed is a mostly maple with some oak queensized, platform bed. It has a 50” X 36” drawer, and a long closet in the end. It is a bit high but it was designed to find a marriage of aesthetics and storage space. The design is my own and is pretty straight forward. I’m trying to be a bit creative without getting too weird and still just different enough so that it has a different look. I think I like it. I’m still deciding.
I tried to put a couple of nice decorative drawer handles on the 50” drawer. They looked so tiny on it. I later found, by special order, a 24” cabinet handle that I mounted as a drawer pull. I like this choice. I still have a smaller one on order for the end door. The finish is a natural polyacrylic, four coats sprayed on.
The drawer has some 200 lb. ball bearing rails. It comes out without sagging. The drawer itself is heavy as it’s made with 3/4” plywood. The rails should be fine as we will only use it to store puffs and sheet goods.
There are four high capacity casters. The bed is heavy but it moves with a push. Good because the L shaped bedroom makes it hard to put any furniture away from the wall and still get around it. So being able to move it to make the bed will be nice sometimes.
This bedroom, as is the whole house, is a compete remodeling job; a work in progress. Hence not much decoration yet, some electrical outlets still with no fixtures and in some pictures where my drill is on the windowsill. My poor wife, she puts up with a lot to cater to my whims. This is our first bed that is not a simple metal bed frame. and my first platform bed. I think we’ll keep it.

I need to make one of these my self. I like the fact that you put drawers in.
