Spline Jig

I made a picture frame spline jig for a frame I am making for a certificate. It’s for my brothers Masonic cert. it made from birch ply and a 2×4 spruce. It fits around my fence with sacrificial plywood and slides very nice. To make the cut or cuts I clamp the frame to the jig with a 5" C clamp. I put a dowel on top to act as a handle well away from the blades path.

Nice jig. I made a tenon cutter that’s very similar. The only difference is the fence on the side is 90° instead of 45.

One of the reasons I’m redoing my mitre sled is to make triangles for a spline jig that will be a cradle on a sled for cutting spline slots into boxes. I’ll post that after I make it.

A handy jig to have.

Nice use of scrape. It will be very useful.

I’ll be making the tenon cutter next Brian. As well I’ll be making a sled version to put splines in boxes. Using up the scraps tends to be a distraction form my main projects, but I love having the jigs done, anytime I can make a tool I feel like the king of woodworking!!! Lol

You know you can put the tenon cutter on the other side of this jig. Mine is 2 sided. One small fence for cutting width wise and one very wide fence for cutting the board depth wise (the edge of end of the board). I’ve never once used the wide fence. I think I’ll modify that side to become my spline cradle. Here’s a couple of pictures. I think modifying the long side shouldn’t be too difficult.

Jigs and fixtures can be a distraction, but they sure are fun to make. I’m currently working on a Router Table Finger/Box Joint set up.
