Curved-Front Desk

I built Chris Gochnour's curved-front desk from FWW #225. The wood is cherry with maple drawer parts. This piece was a challenge for me - it taught me some things and pushed me a bit further along on my journey.

The splayed legs and concave front had me scratching my head more than a few times. My biggest challenge was getting the drawers right, since they participate in the curvature.

Here are most of the base parts when only the two sides were assembled:

The drawers hang on side-mounted runners. I like this technique a lot. In the end, the locations of the runners also set the stop for the drawers.

Here is the first drawer side that I attached to one of the outside drawer fronts. As you can see, this is not at a right angle - it's off by about 9 degrees:

Here are the three drawers. The fronts were cut to final shape on the bandsaw.

Finally, here is a peek under the hood:

I finished this with Danish Oil.

Love the curve. And the middle section kind of has that cloud-lifter effect.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Sweet! I like it! 👍👌

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

That is one elegant desk, the curved front makes it pop. Well Done.

Nice looking desk Chuck. Those are some nice looking legs
Moving my projects here is a great opportunity to revisit them.  My son has used this desk a lot over the past few years and it is holding up well.

Thanks for the comments!

That's a  beautiful desk. The gentle curves give it a very elegant appearance.
