Great idea on the jig, simple but very functional. When I build a box joint jig, I did the same and added a feature to cut them at angles for hexagons and octagons.
Been wanting to make one like this for years. Currently have one that rides on the fence (for frames), but it gets old replacing the consumables.

BB1 - The bar that rides in the TS miter slot really helps with quality and safety. I have since added t track in the jig face to hold the work. (Again, a quality and safety plus)

Yes - good features. Mine is from years ago and I rarely use it as it isn't very stable. Will have to plan for some jig making time.
