Pennsylvania Spice Chest, 2020

Plans were from "Fine Woodworking Magazine",  did minor changes for the tools I used and my abilities.    Primary wood was Walnut with Poplar as a secondary.    Ash was used on the back.   Inlay is  Holly (1/16" x 3/32" string).   Beads are Locust, Red Cedar and Holly.   Build was over a 4 month period.    Moldings were made on the router table.   52 sets of hand cut dovetails.
The string and berry inlay was done with a Bosch Colt router using a 1/16" Freud bit.
The lower drawer can be removed allowing one to reach to the back and raise and push it back to take it off.   This  then  exposes the 2 hidden compartments.   Was a fun build that used all my skills and then some.   Learned a lot.

I drooled over this back when you first made it. A lot of detailed work that paid off big time!
Every part of this chest is outstanding. The inlay the dovetails are all great
Beautiful Box Ron.
Superb Craftisianship.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Ron you know I love this project.

Really good work!

Andy -- Old Chinese proverb say: If you think something can't be done, don't interrupt man who is doing it.

You did a beautiful job here, this chest is fantastic, the details are superb - dovetails - inlay - etc. Two thumbs up.

Thanks for the comments.    Enjoyed the project start to finish.

Beautiful work!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Premium stuff Ron. You mention your skills as if they are limited. Very few would be able to execute at the level you have demonstrated with this chest. Love the hidden compartments too.
