While wading through the projects I’m considering for migration across from LJ, I was appalled by the number of laser projects I published on the unfortunate members.
To try to maintain some “woodworking” integrity, I thought it might be prudent to drag this project across, if only to give others ideas.
Maybe I can coax Dutchy into posting his version… a helluva lot better/professional than mine, but my justification is based on lack of supply (and a tad ignorance when I was still a kid back in 2008).
This was previously published on 26th. March, 2021… and I will follow it up with the box (lasered) for it… I might vaguely have that over the Dutchman.
The blog below mentions Fe$tool rubber strips… stay tuned for a project I have in the can for more insight into a plausible alternative for general workshop/jig accoutrements.
Designed in SketchUp, and thanks to Martin, you can feast your eye on it here,
Made this jig back in 2008 out of KD hardwood using Kreg t-tracks. It wasn't till Mel52's latest project that mentioned his Juice Groove Jig that made me realise I still needed to fine tune my attempt at this "version" of the Festool MFS 700 Routing Template.
The design was limited by the length of t-tracks I had available at the time and I haven't had the need to make a bigger one.
Sometime between initial build and last use,
It was shortened to just the track lengths as I couldn't reduce it enough for small jobs.
This latest modification
flattened the knurled knob access circle so that greater pressure could be applied to ensure that 90° could be achieved between the adjacent sides.
Unlike mel's jig, this one sits on top of the job so there is an option to mount some Fe$tool non-slip rubber strips if needed,
Thanks for looking.
2021-03-30 Addition… I have made a video that hopefully will show a bit more about the jig (though not the use) and also a Sketchup animation of the jig and the box I have designed.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
I have piles of hardboard strips that I lace together with DS tape whenever I need a setup like this. It's never ending but I can't pound it into me 'ed to just make a good jig like this since I figure my next need will be my last (as if)!
Yours is better. Problem with the one I made is that the frame is to small and te router tilts easily. A 2080 aluminum profile would have been better. But if the router remains within the square, mine can also be used just fine
And for those who want to study mine here are the photos.
That deserves a Project in it's own Dutchy... not everyone will read this post... especially when they see by LBD and think, hell, another boring installment.
Your use of diversified hardware always amazes me.
