Hand plane Rack

I finally got around to building a hand plane rack to go with the chisel rack I built earlier in the year. It doesn't hold all of my planes, just the ones I use most. I say that but like most people, I don't use all of the Stanley bench planes. They look cool though. I'm still in the process of restoring those. The rack is hung from French cleats and made from painted pine and MDF with oak accents.

Here's a pic of the two racks next to each other.

On to the next one.

Awesome Andy! I’m a big fan of tills. I think they do such a great job of presenting the tools and making them look decorative at the same time. Nicely done!

Nice collection of knuckle joint blocks too!

Thanks Ryan. I love them too. I think they are a good option in a hand tool shop, but not so good if you make a lot of dust. I don't, so they work for me and I think it will be a lovely, inspiring place to work.

Well, I do make a lot of dust…and that does make it a little work, but I’m happy to wipe them down in order to have them visible. My tool wall gives me a warm feeling everything I look at it, and even more so when I’m using the tools from it!

A nice complement to the chisel rack. Some nice planes. Love those infills. Is that a spokeshve at the upper right?

Sweet collection and great storage for them.

Nice design, all tools are easy to see & access.
Thanks. As much as I'm enjoying my tools being on show, I'm really enjoying putting them away after using them. I can't stand to see a gap where a chisel or plane should be. LOL.

Here's a sneak preview of the next rack which houses my backsaws and larger screwdrivers. I'm just working on the little drawer in the bottom righthand corner which will house screwdriver bits and Yankee driver bits. Then I need to take it all apart and paint it and oil the oak components. After this one is finished, I have one more rack to make on this wall which will house my hand drills and braces, my marking, mortise and cutting gauges and my marking tools. Really looking forward to seeing this wall completed.

@Foghorn - No, it is a Veritas beading tool. A bit like a scratch stock.

Nicely done! I just finished my plane storage and you are right about seeing an empty space. I'm already doing a better job of putting things away.
Thanks Steve. Can't wait to see it.
