As I still get questions about my drill press - thought I’d share a link to it here. Please see my blog for more details on this Hand-Cranked Drill Press.

Now that is a cool adaptation! No belt swapping to change RMP's 🙂
That is cool and very creative. A interesting way to use a brace for sure.

Thanks. I use this thing primarily for boring holes in hinge cleats and for till lids.

Thanks. I have four braces; this one with a 3/8-inch bit for hinge cleats and till lids, one with a gimlet for snipe hinges, one with a counter sink, and one for various auger bits (usually fitted with a 1/4-inch bit for drawbore pegs). I don't spend a lot of time changing bits... LOL!

Very nice Ron, I think I have to make myself one of those when I get around to it - maybe something that locks in a vice instead of freestanding though.

Thanks, Mike. I look forward to seeing your version!

Wow that’s awesome! Out of historic curiosity, was that a real tool style in shops of old, of is it just a really clever adaptation you made?

Quite historical. Please take the link to my blog. The it was used in building of pianos.

Thanks! For repetitive tasks as I mentioned in a previous comment, it is a great “not so little” tool... LOL!

Very nice reproduction Ron, as typical for your work, but do you find any benefit to using this versus a hand held brace?

The drill press is easier in that there is no need to change bits, set up a sacrificial board, or worry about clamps and such. Plus, I get a perfect 90° bore. I could simply use a hand-held brace, but where’s the fun in that? LOL!

Nice build but I would of thought you would be a post drill guy. I bet this is more accurate that my drill press.
Looks like a guillotine that drills a hole in someone's head instead of severing it.  😉

I remember when you designed and built that.  I provided lots of dumb ideas that you wisely ignored.

LOL! I still haven't given up thinking about adding a treadle of some sort.

That is awesome.  I don't have room for one, but I want one.
Hah, just read the blog.  Putting it in front of the window to accommodate long stock is brilliant!
