I had a Stanley no. 6 that's been sitting in my shop for several years. The threaded nub for the front knob was broke off. I finally decided to do something with it.

Hopefully it will give some ideas

The hotdog is grooved to fit the side. Because you are pushing against the hump, it doesn't move. I suppose iy could also be epoxied on for added support.

Cool idea for an old plane sole, may have to think about this.

I like the hotdog, does it just slide on and off again then?
Useful if you don't have a dedicated shooting plane.
A great save for a tool that would always handicapped in its normal use.

I saw somewhere where they drilled and tapped some holes on the bottom of the hot dog (more of a bun if you ask me) and used some nylon screws sort of like set screws to help secure it in place.

That’s a great idea Don. Sure would appreciate some pics of you using it. When I see some planes in that shape on line I’ll look at them in a new way.

What is the set up for the board?
I sold the plane a few years ago, so I don't think I have pictures using it.

The board is just a basic base, with a piece of Masonite and a stop. I still have it and use it occasionally. I'll take some pictures when I think of it.

Yes, it could just be slid backwards and off.
