Oak Library Stool

When traveling I like to get ideas from the Sky Mall magazine in the airliners.
This one is from there and is called a library stool and I have made 3 of them. We have ours in the kitchen and we use it quite a bit. It is really quite stable even when standing on the top.
I made it from scrap oak from Hamilton Lumber's firewood box. They cut off the ends of bunks as they load them onto semi's and give the scrap away.

 It is 9 1/2" x 13 1/2" x 22" high.

Anyway, this project is put together almost entirely with 5/16" dowels. I have a doweling fixture I made and it has a gage that goes to 36" so I can register the dowel pattern anywhere along that length. The only screws hold on the steps and the steps pivot on 1/4" machine screws.

it is stained with Zar #120 Teak Natural stain and finished with polyurethane.

Hi Larry. I made this some years ago. I just brought over 4 projects from LJ's. I don't post there any more and I want to capture my best ones here. It is so sad what they did to that once great site of Martin's.

Cheers, Jim
