Oak Treasure Chest

This is a small oak treasure chest I made from scrap oak from the "wallboard store" ( Hamilton Lumber). My son and I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and came home with just a ton of beads and medallions from all the parades and I needed a place to store them. What better place than a treasure chest and I had never made one of them.

All the oak is cut offs from the firewood box at the "wallboard store". I had to buy a pair of hinges and a lock where the bolt comes down and moves over to catch the top and lock it. I made the brass brackets to hold the handles and cut the handles out of some 1/4" thick leather. I used another piece of thinner leather for the top retainer.
It was fun and we keep in in the living room for a conversation piece

It is 10" x 20" x 13" high and finished with  satin Poly

Nicely done

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Looks like a fun build. You did a good job as usual.

I've been wondering where to store all my beads.....now I know. LOL
On first look, I thought it was a lunchbox. Guess it’s a little big for that. Sharp-looking chest, Jim!

May you have the day you deserve!

I looked at the pictures before reading the text.  Thought they might be Mardi Gras beads.  Spent 6th through 9th grades in NOLA.

Nice Jim, bet the rounded top was a challenge. Well done.

Dave mentioned a lunch box, that would be about the size of mine.

I like the top's design, nice work.
Thanks you all for the nice comments. All the beads needed a fitting place to store them.
